Construction Begins!
It’s hard to believe how quickly things are moving now. The debris has been cleared and the foundation is poured. Other than heavy rains one weekend (you can see the standing water on the site), we’ve been lucky and had pretty good weather.
It’s common for foundations to be built with block, but Richard opted for a poured concrete foundation. Before beginning to dig, Richard surveyed the area and erected a grid to set the placement of the foundation. Meanwhile, Nick, Richard’s right-hand guy and worker extraordinaire, built the forms for the foundation, walls and garage. Next, the foundation was dug, the forms were placed and the concrete was poured. Easy for us to say. It was grueling work and the crew didn’t stop. It was especially impressive when they went back out at 10 pm to smooth the concrete pad for the garage. Now that’s dedication! Thank goodness it was Friday night and just in time for a well-earned rest on the weekend.
Once the concrete set, the forms were removed and allowed to cure for several days. It all had to be done again for the wall base. The final step was to pour a pad for the heat pumps. We are now the proud owners of a completed foundation.
