After much consideration, we’ve retained Design Solutions, Inc in Annapolis, MD to design and install the new kitchen. We wondered with Lisa’s experience in professional kitchens what value a kitchen consultant would bring. A conversation with Marcus Calco convinced us that his 35 years of experience in designing and building kitchens beat ours and that we should rely on an expert to help us get exactly what we want.
We felt like kids in a candy store looking at samples of cabinets, counter tops, and fixtures. We believe we will have our dream kitchen. We can’t wait!

Well, we are moving forward. Preliminary drawings are in and wonderful! The town seems on board with our plans, but of course, we still have the official permit process yet to come. In the meantime, we’ve been busy antiquing…Manassas, Culpeper, Eastern Shore, Richmond (all in Virginia) as well as Brimfield and Rowley, Massachusetts, and a few shops in New Hampshire. This has been a whole new experience for me, but great fun. Once I get settled in Onancock, I’ll focus on refinishing and reupholstering some of the pieces. Which leads me to the BIG move.
We’re sorting, organizing and tossing 15 years worth (and sometimes more) of STUFF - the George Carlin kind. Moving day is August 25th and with everything moving into one type of storage or another, there’s no point in keeping stuff we can’t use. It’s a lot of work, but rather cathartic as we launch our new venture.

We’ve selected Troy Watson, principal of The Kettner Group, as our architect and met Monday night for our programming session. This is when you discuss objectives, must haves, and a wish list for the property. We talked for 2 hours and Troy took copious notes. The next step will be the preliminary drawings where we’ll see our ideas in design for the first time. We expect those around the middle of June. Stay tuned.
