Step One - The Trees

While the architect completes the drawings, we decided to arrange for a tree service to remove the trees necessary to begin the construction. Beaver Tree Service in Salisbury, Maryland, (a great name for a tree service) arrived on September 19 armed with chain saws, ropes, a bucket truck, chipper and a team of five. It was fascinating to watch them drop whole trees, buzz off branches and chip them in their huge chipper, all the while talking, laughing and singing. I could tell immediately that they knew precisely what they were doing, which gave me great confidence considering the proximity of the trees to our house and our neighbors’. They finished up by grinding the tree stumps and cutting the wood into fireplace lengths for a friend of ours who will use it to heat his house this winter, and perhaps next.

When they were done, the house took on a whole new look inside and out. The inside was now flooded with light that had been blocked out by the trees. From the outside, the architecture was now visible to its best advantage. Neighbors stopped by the next day, while I raked up the mulch, to introduce themselves and comment on the new look of the house. Everyone seems as happy with it as we are.

Stay tuned for the next step — construction.

Wow!! I can’t believe the difference without the trees there!! Adam you are doing a great job with all of the website stuff, i know you and camille stay so busy with your dancing, work and personal life, I don’t know how you find time to get this done as well. Great Job!! And mom, I know it is lonely there, but there is also so much you are doing. your progress is amazing. Who would have thought that last year at this time you were debating what you wanted to do!! Love you, Ali

Very nicely done guys!! I’ve been showing off the website to just about anybody that is willing…and even some that aren’t ;) I can’t wait to see the “Renovation” section as work begins. Mom, you’ll have to keep everything up to date for all of us so that we can enjoy it right along with you. The website is incredible. I know everything about the project, but when I go on the website I feel like I see something new each time….there’s a lot of info there.

    Love,
    Jake

Thanks, Jake. I appreciate your compliments particularly because I know how honest you are.

Adam deserves a big pat on the back for creating this website. I’ve heard several comments from people who are surprised that this is only the interim site. I especially like the Before and After Gallery function. It will be really effective when the renovation begins and we can watch the progress online.

    Love,
    Mom

Gee, thanks guys! The site is the first of its kind that I’ve built - WordPress, css, standards and xhtml compliant and all that jazz. There’s lots of cool stuff in here that would be really boring if I were to write about them here, but rest assured, as far as websites go, this one’s pretty sweet. ;)

    Love,
    Your Friendly Neighborhood Webmaster
